Go For It - Let's Make an App

Sign up or log in to save this to your schedule, view media, leave feedback and see who's attending!

The session will begin with showing what the app inventor is (www.appinventor.mit.edu), using some live coding examples, and showing some examples of apps built using it.

Examples include projects by students of Code Rangers, who took part in the Tech Girls Movement app development competition in 2015.

There will then be discussion about how app inventor may be used as part of the technologies curriculum. Students could develop apps using app inventor after identifying needs that have personal relevance, applying design
theory and using design processes that encourage flexibility, resourcefulness and imagination in the development, communication and production of quality solutions (as per the Technology (Mandatory) Years 7–8 Syllabus rationale).

Ideally there will be an opportunity for hands on learning by teachers, with a chance to see app design and coding take place in real time.
