Collaboration and Google Docs
There is much talk and many questions about how ICT tools support learning. There are numerous presentations and seminars at conferences which show what the tools can do; however, those same presentations rarely demonstrate how ICT tools support learning. This presentation will provide insights into the findings of a Case Study in one school setting. The Case Study was deliberately contained to one school setting, focusing on one 21st century skill, collaboration; using one tool, Google Docs. For this Case Study, Google Docs referred to the online word processing document format that lets the user create and format text documents and collaborate with other people in real time.

Participants in this workshop will be introduced to quantitative data and qualitative evidence which seeks to understand how different members of one school community use Google Docs for collaboration and also provide insights into which factors help and hinder the use of Google Docs for collaboration. This will be done by:
• Clarifying the key features of Google Docs
• Using research to affirm the need to develop the skill of collaboration for students with reference to a ‘Collaboration Rubric’.
• Examining samples of evidence and data from the Case Study, and
• Sharing findings and recommendations from the Case Study.
