Raymond Lister is an Associate Professor in the Faculty of Engineering and Information Technology at University of Technology Sydney. For the last fifteen years, his primary research interest has been Computing Education, especially the study of novice programmers. He has published over 100 peer-reviewed papers in that area. In 2004, he led an international team that studied novice programmers, comprising academics from twelve universities in seven countries. In 2007, he received a (then) Carrick Institute Associate Fellowship for Teaching and Learning, one of only eight such fellowships awarded in 2007 to Australian academics across all disciplines. In 2008 and 2009, he was co-chair of the International Computing Education Research Workshop. He has won teaching and learning grants totalling approximately half a million Australian dollars. He has served on the exam writing committees for the HSC subjects “Software Design and Development” and “Information Processes and Technology”, chairing the latter committee for three years.
